Ayse's Story

Q. During this time period (the 1974 war), was there anything special that stands out in your mind about the media (radio, television, newspapers, etc.) or the way media was used in your family or by your friends?
Yes. There was 1 Bayrak Radio. We learned all the events from this radio. And there was one Turkish newspaper. This newspaper published every day and told all about the situation, so I learned what the situation was about the war.

Q. Did you have any thoughts or ideas or feelings or emotions at that time?
Yes. I was affected by these events. These were people that were killed in the war and people that were taken prisoner.

Q. Were these thoughts or ideas or feelings or emotions a problem for you in any way?
Yes. These events psychologically affected me and continued for a long time.

Q. Did the media help you in any way at that time during this period?
Yes. We got information from the radio about captives and wounded people. This newspaper gave some messages. The newspaper and radio took an important role at this time.
